Zoya Akhtar

Zoya Akhtar hails from one of the most artistic families in the country. Born to poet, lyricist and screenwriter, Javed Akhtar and screenwriter Honey Irani, Zoya learnt the ropes of storytelling from an early age. Her career began by assisting established filmmakers, such as as Mira Nair, Tony Gerber and Dev Benegal.


After turning writer-director in her own right, Zoya has grown in stature with each successive film. Through the course of her career, she has directed movies like the critically acclaimed Luck By Chance (2009), Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara (2011), Sheila Ki Jawani as a segment of Bombay Talkies (2013) and Dil Dhadakne Do (2015), a film based on a dysfunctional Punjabi family. Her signature style brings together creativity, sensitivity and individuality to create a one-of-a-kind cinematic experience which resonates with all ages.


 Zoya Akhtar’s recent directorial, Gully Boy was India’s official entry for the Best International Feature category at the 92nd Academy Awards. Through her body of work, Zoya showcases her ever-evolving versatility – from the rags to riches story of Gully Boy, to the fancy dysfunctional family of Dil Dhadakne Do, an ode to life portrayed in Zindagi Na Milega Dobara, and the story of a struggling actor in Luck By Chance, Zoya Akhtar has cemented her place as one of India’s most distinguished directors.


 Zoya’s recent foray into the digital space has led to highly appreciated series, such as Made in Heaven for Amazon Prime Video. Through Netflix’s Lust Stories, Zoya has established her position as one of the most sought-after directors.


Through her latest venture, Tiger Baby, Zoya has taken on the hat of Producer – with a lot more exciting content in the works!
